1299392 Grinding TIMESAVERS SANDERS Inc 27 Feb 1970 [4 Sept 1969] 9668/70 Heading B3D A belt sanding machine comprises a frame 10, a rigid elongated bed 22 on the frame having a horizontal top 23 over which articles can be advanced through a sanding zone 13 by a belt 14 on roll means 20, 21 disposed at the ends of the bed, driving and idler drums 18, 19 mounted on the frame for rotation about horizontal axes at different elevations above the bed, and a belt 17 around the drums, the belts being identical endless abrasive belts. The frame consists of an upright wall 12 on which a slide 16 is vertically adjustable by a screw 45 rotated through a ratchet mechanism 47 by a handle 46. The slide carries the bed 22 which at one end adjustably supports the roll 21 and at the other the roll 20 which is driven through a gear-box 30 mounted on the slide and a belt 55 from a motor 54. The motor also drives through a coupling 59 the drum 18 which is supported by a bracket 60 and outboard bearing 63. The upper drum 19 is freely rotatable on a shaft carried by a plate 73 which is vertically adjustable in slides 78 by a screw 82 and hand wheel 80 to tension the belt 17, and is adjustable about a pivot 75 by a screw 86 to adjust the tracking of the belt. The sizes and spacings of the drums 18, 19 and rolls 20, 21 are such that the two belts 14, 17 are identical abrasive belts. Spring- pressed rollers 66 are carried by the bracket 60 to press the workpiece downwardly on to the belt 14 which conveys the workpiece through the zone 13 for sanding by the belt 17.
