Abstract
1299181 Rotary hydraulic machines G E E WARDER 18 Feb 1970 [20 Feb 1969] 9150/69 Heading F1F A rotary hydraulic machine of the axially- sliding vane kind operable as a pump or motor or with the two in combination as a hydraulic transmitter, comprises two relatively rotatable cylindrical components enclosing two or more axially spaced annular chambers formed in one of the components, each of said chambers being connected separately or commonly to a hydraulic system, each chamber being sub-divided by at least one abutment formed on one component with the abutment or abutments in one chamber in axial alignment with the abutment or abutments in the other chamber or chambers, a plurality of angularly equispaced vanes carried by the other component axially slidable in open ended slideways with each vane having a number of axially disposed gateways corresponding in number with and simultaneously cooperable with the annular chambers to allow on relative rotation of the components the passage of a vane past an abutment and means for sequentially axially moving the vanes wherein at all times during the operating cycle at least two vanes have fluid trapped therebetween. Described as a pump, a rotor 1, Fig.1, is formed with axially-spaced annular chambers 5, 6 and carries a plurality of angularly equispaced, axially sliding vanes 9-24, Fig.2, in open-ended slideways 25. Each vane is formed with axially-spaced gateways 26, 27 which move into and out of register with the chambers and cooperate with abutments 7, 8, secured to the stator, one diametral pair to each chamber, to divide the chamber into two sub-chambers each with an arcuate inlet port 32 and an arcuate outlet port 33 which through passages in the three-part stator 2, 3, 4 communicate with a supply connection 38 and a discharge connection 39. End cams 28, 29 of complementary sinusoidal configuration formed on the stator end covers include dwells of angular extent to span three vanes so that at any time during the operating cycle at least two vanes, vanes 12, 13, Fig. 4, enclose a space D between spaces R into which fluid is being supplied and spaces P from which fluid is being discharged. The inlet ports 32 may be commonly or separately connected to a liquid supply and similarly discharge ports 33 may be connected to a common discharge or separate discharges. Valves may be fitted to permit independent control of all the subchambers and control of pump output.
