1298550 Packaging SHINKO PLANT KK and NIPPON PACK SYSTEM KK 21 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 59403/71 Heading B8C A first end of a length of a tubular film is drawn by means 77 through a tyre, coil of wire, or other annular article to be wrapped, while the other end is drawn by means 55 around the outside of the article and is then transferred to the means 77 to be drawn through the article to hold the first end in position. The film is repeatedly passed through the inside and around the outside till the length is fully wound. Each means 55 and 77 comprises a plurality of suction discs arranged in a ring and movable vertically. The suction discs 77 are mounted on a frame 76 which can be expanded to the diameter of the discs 55 or contracted to pass through the annular article. The article is supported by ring 38 which can be moved downwardly into an inoperative position out of the way of the film and by arcuated supports 75 which can be moved radially outwardly into an inoperative position. The above apparatus is one often similar pieces of apparatus arranged on a rotating table 1. A length of film is fed to each apparatus from a former 19 and is cut by an apparatus 87. The discs 55 and 77 and supporting rings 38 are moved vertically by racks 60, 22, 39 driven from shafts 8 and 9 arranged in circles around the table. The film may be secured by adhesive tape, or by being shrunk in a heated tunnel or by jets of hot gas.
