Abstract

Air bags are provided at each end of a cenral shaft and an expandible metal support surface. Pref. a number of concentric layers of coiled tapes, are provided around, and extending between, the air bags. Inflation of the bags causes radial expansion of the support surface. Pref. one end of each coil is free and the other end is attached to the adjacent inner coil. The support is used forming packages of cellulose material under predetermined tension.
