Abstract
1297473 Processing silver halide colour photographic materials FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 21654/71 Heading G2C Reversal colour development of an exposed gelatino silver halide photographic material comprises treating the material, before or during the first development, with a processing solution or solutions containing (1) a phenazine of the formula: - wherein n is 0, 1, 2 or 3; and R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> are each 1-4C alkyl, aryl, halogen, alkoxyl, acylamino, carboxyl or NO 2 ; and R 1 and R 2 are each H, COOM, SO 3 M, halogen or OH, at least one of R 1 and R 2 being COOM or SO 3 M wherein M is H, sodium, potassium or an ammonium radical; and R 3 and R 4 are each H or alkyl, or R 3 and R 4 together form a hydrocarbon ring, (2) a heterocyclic mercapto compound of the formula: - wherein A and B complete a heterocyclic ring comprising at least one N atom and at least one C atom which heterocyclic ring may be substituted with one or more substituents which may form a ring fused to the heterocyclic ring and which may itself be substituted, and (3) an aldehyde hardener. Many examples are given of the phenazine compound (1). The heterocyclic mercapto compound (2) may be a 3-mercapto- 1, 2, 4-triazole, a 5-mercapto-1, 2, 3, 4-tetrazole, a 4-mercapto-1, 3, 3a, 7-tetraazaindene, or a 2-mercapto-benzimidazole. The aldehyde hardener (3) may be formaldehyde or formaldehyde together with pyruric aldehyde, glutaraldehyde and succinic aldehyde. The processing solution may be a prehardener bath, an aldehyde neutralizing bath or a first developer bath. The material may be treated with the processing solution(s) at an elevated temperature. Compound (1) decreases fog caused by the aldehyde hardener (3), and compound (2) delays development of the surface layer. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1257242.
