Abstract

1296743 Ships' cranes BLOHM & VOSS AG 29 May 1970 25996/70 Heading B8B A ship's crane comprises a derrick boom 3 pivoted at 4 and supported from two posts 2 each with a span tackle with parts 12, 12<SP>1</SP> respectively connected to main drum 40 and additional drum 41 on a winch. The main drum 40 is directly driven by a motor 42 while the additional drum 41, which has a smaller cable capacity, can free wheel or be connected to be driven with the main drum 40 through a coupling 47. For heavy loads the additional drum 41 freewheels and part 12<SP>1</SP> is essentially anchored on pin 43. For light loads the drums 40, 41 are coupled for rotation together effectively doubling the rate of swing of the derrick boom 3.
