Abstract

Lighting burners and the like by electric devices; lighting-torches, non-electric.-An electric ignition device comprises a coil d and a denticulated tubular member or grating e arranged in circuit in a metal casing a and connected through terminals b<1>, b<2> to an electric lighting system. A friction-rod f having a wick g at its end is pressed against a short-circuiting plate, and is rubbed lightly and rapidly over the grating e so as to ignite the wick. The core of the coil d consists of strands of soft iron, and wires separated from one another are wound together with a sheet of asbestos round the core. The tubular grating e is held in position against an aperture a<1> in the casing a by a support i, Fig. 4, and a retaining-spring j. The friction-rod f is normally inserted in a reservoir c', Fig. 2, with the wick g in contact with cottonwool g', to which spirit passes from an inner reservoir c past an adjusting-screw h. The reservoir c<1> is hooked into a socket on the metal casing a.
