Abstract

1296008 Curette R R ROBINSON 19 April 1971 [31 July 1970] 26062/71 Heading A5R A curette for intrauterine use comprises an elongated tube 12; a plunger 14 reciprocable therein; and a material-removing device 18 secured to one end of the plunger 14 and movable with the plunger 14 into and at least partially out of the tube, said device 18 having a trunk (22), Fig. 3 (not shown) and a pair of elongated branches 24 extending from the trunk (22) and joined together at their outer ends 30 remote from the trunk (22); said branches 24 being disposed side-by-side when housed within the tube 12 and having irregular surfaces 40, said branches 24 being made of flexible material and being pre-formed to assume in unrestrictive surroundings a selfsustaining loop 32 lying in a plane disposed at an obtuse angle to a second plane containing the longitudinal axis of the trunk (22). The trunk (22) is a frictional fit into the tubular end of the plunger 14. The irregular surfaces may take the form of triangular prismatic teeth 40 projecting interiorly of the loop 32 (as shown), or pyramidal teeth (140), Fig. 6 (not shown) projecting outwardly from the plane of the loop 32. Plunger 14 may be fitted with a finger grip (16), Fig. 1 (not shown) at the other end.
