A curette comprises a tube 10 and a device 12 reciprocatable within the tube including a stem 16 linked to a pair of flexible fingers 18 which have irregular tissue gripping inner surfaces 28 and are linked by a bight 26 to form loop 22. Rings 36 can be shifted away from finger piece 14 to withdraw loop 22 into tube 10 with fingers 18 in side by side relationship, or shifted towards finger piece 18 to permit the loop 22 to open within the uterus 42 (as shown).
