Abstract

1,206,437. Tampon applicators. KIMBERLY-CLARK CORP. 23 Nov., 1967 [12 Dec., 1966[, No. 53426/67. Heading A5R. A device for ejecting a tampon from a tubular container 5 into the body comprises a cup-shaped piston (19) of flexible resilient material which has slanting side walls divided into circumferentally spaced spring sections 14, 15 (18, 20) and a handle 11 for operating the piston and pivotal on a spring section of the piston. The handle 11 is hinged to and preferably in one piece with the piston so that when the piston is located in the container behind the tampon, the handle can be disposed alongside the container for packaging or aligned with the axis of the container for operating the piston. The spring sections are defined by notches at least one of which extends into the flat bottom 17 of the piston for the passage of a tampon withdrawal cord 7. When in relaxed position, the diameter of the piston at the free ends of the spring sections is greater than the diameter of the container 5 so that when the piston is in the container the spring sections press against the wall of the container to resist withdrawal of the piston.
