Abstract
1295676 Boots &c SHOE & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 24 July 1970 [24 July 1969] 37175/69 Heading A3B A shoe has a halogenated pre-formed sole unit 3 of hydrocarbon - elastomer based material bonded to the lasting margin of an upper 1 by a layer 4 of in situ foamed polyurethane. In a first embodiment (Fig. 2) the sole 3 is formed with side walls 6 which contact the lasting margin at 7 and which define a cavity in which the polyurethane layer 4 is formed. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3) the pre-formed sole 3 is place in a mould 14 and a polyurethane forming mixture is injected through passage 15. The upper 1 may be of leather in which case the lasting margin is roughened or may be of thermoplastic or poromeric material in which case the lasting margin may have a coating of adhesive. Ribs (not shown) may be formed on the upper surface of the pre-formed sole unit to determine the spacing between the sole and the bottom of the lasted upper.
