Abstract

1294409 Rolling UNITED ENG & FOUNDRY CO 10 April 1970 [21 April 1969] 17131/70 Heading B3M Apparatus for extracting associated chocks, rest bars and guides from a roll assembly 10 comprises a cradle 21 (Fig. 2) which engages the toll 18 at neck portions 18b and 18c to support the roll assembly for removal of bearing chocks 11 and 12 by sleds 44 and 45, and rest bars 13 and 14 together with roll guides 15 and 16 by cars 31 and 32. The cars 31 and 32 are positioned by piston cylinder assemblies 41a and 42a to the position as shown at the right-hand portion of Fig. 1 so that L-shaped latch 37 engages with the rest bar with catch 38 engaging the top of the rest bar. After removal of bolts and keeper plates, the piston cylinder assemblies 41a and 42a displace the cars 31 and 32 away from the roll assembly. The roll assembly is then positioned by cradle 21 so that the chocks 11 and 12 and coupling member 17 are supported by sleds 44, 45 and 49. The coupling member 17 is extracted by displacing sled 49 by piston cylinder assembly 50 after which piston cylinder assemblies 47 and 48 displace the sleds 44 carrying the chocks 11 and 12 away from the roll 18. In a second embodiment the cradle is provide with adjustable yokes 65 having rack gears 66 which are mutually engaged by a pinion 67 so that on rotation of the pinion the yokes 65 are displaced away or towards each other. Jacks 68 are used to elevate platens 61a, 62a and 63a to a desired position for extracting the chocks and coupling member.
