Abstract
1,180,370. Casting-machines. HEATLOCK Ltd. 23 Aug., 1968 [13 Nov., 1967], No. 40479/68. Heading B3F. A die-casting machine includes a framework 1, a furnace 4 and at least two support tables 2, 3 mounted within said framework, at least two carriages 10, 11 each mounted upon said framework for movement between a position above the furnace and a position above a corresponding one of said support tables, an upper platen 17 mounted upon each of said carriages and provided with means for raising and lowering said upper platen, a lower platen 20 associated with each of said upper platens, means for securing complementary mould halves 19, 21 to an associated pair of said upper and lower platens, co-operating means on said furnace and lower platens 20 whereby molten metal may be introduced into the mould through the lower platen and clamping means 24 for linking together an associated pair of upper and lower platens whereby the lower platen may be transported between the furnace 4 and its support table. The clamping means 24 may be lowered to co-operate with brackets 27 mounted on the framework 1 to locate accurately the position of the lower platen 20 with respect to the delivery tube for molten metal from the furnace 4. To begin casting, one of the carriages (11 in Fig. 1) is moved into position above the furnace 4 and the platens lowered until the lower platen 20 rests upon the furnace. The mould is then closed by lowering the upper platen 17 and molten metal is introduced into the mould from the furnace 4. After a given time, the mould halves are parted and the casting extracted. This cycle is then repeated until the required number of castings have been made whereupon the mould is moved away to the table 3 using carriage 11. Cores may be inserted into the mould by means of a piston-and-cylinder unit 23.
