Abstract

1294391 Friction clutches; wire springs SOC ANON FRANCAISE DU FERODA 19 March 1970 [20 March 1969 11 Aug 1969] 13378/70 Headings F2C and F2S In a centrifugally engaged friction clutch wherein a driven plate 117 is clamped between a flywheel 110 and presser plate 123 against the bias of return springs 130 by balls 160 which move radially outward under centrifugal action, a U-shaped portion 133 of the springs 130 passes through a clutch housing 119 and prevents rotation of the balls 160 relative to the clutch housing. The balls 160 act between a conical surface 156 of the presser plate 123 and a conical surface 142 on the clutch cover 119. The conical surface 156 subtends a semi-angle at the apex which lies between 70 and 80 degrees and is preferably 75 degrees, whilst the surface 142 subtends a semi-angle at its apex which lies between 50 and 60 degrees and is preferably 55 degrees. The presser plate 123 is connected to the cover 119 by tangential straps (128). The spring 130 has ends 135A, 135B which engage the clutch cover and the central U-shaped portion 133 engages a plate (155) fast with the presser plate.
