Abstract

1294190 Outboard drives; hydraulic steering system VOLVO PENTA AB 30 Dec 1970 [6 Jan 1970] 61911/70 Heading B7V [Also in Division F1] In a marine craft outboard drive the lower portion 14 of the propeller housing 12 is rotatable for steering the craft by means of a double acting piston and cylinder assembly comprising cylinders 65, 67 each closed at one end and mounted on the upper portion 13 of the housing. Rack 55 which joins pistons 64, 66 co-operates with teeth 54 on the lower housing portion 14 to cause it to rotate. Communication between the pressure side of each piston and a sump 78 is open when the piston is at or near outer dead centre and further communication is arranged between the sump and a pump 20.
