Abstract

1294122 Hydraulic reciprocating pumps SIMMS GROUP RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd 2 Feb 1970 [17 Feb 1969] 8436/69 Heading F1A [Also in Division F2] A pump supplying lubricant to the journal bearing of the roller follower 21 of a tappet 3 comprises a piston 8 slidable on a push rod 7 reciprocated by the tappet and moving in an annular cylinder formed between the push rod 7 and a fixed sleeve 18. The mechanism is immersed in oil up to a level 16. The piston 8 is axially slidable on the push rod 7 between a shoulder and a ring 9 secured to the push rod by a circlip 10. As the push rod moves downwards, oil is drawn through three ports 11 in the piston 8 into the cylinder. When the push rod moves upwards, the piston seats on the ring 9 to close the ports 11 so that oil is forced to the bearing via bores 13, 12, 14 and a groove 15.
