Abstract

1293689 Method of erecting a building A C WHITTING 17 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969] 60019/70 Heading E1S A multi-storey building is erected by (1) constructing on the site a construction platform 13 covering the floor plan of the building, (2) elevating the platform in stages whilst constructing vertical columns 11, service shafts 10, &c. from the platform, (3) fixing the platform at the top of the building to the vertical elements to form a stable structure, (4) mounting floor hoisting means, e.g. jacks 42, at the tops of the vertical elements, (5) constructing at ground level 36 a floor complete with perimeter walls and fittings and hoisting it up one or two storeys to act as a roof whilst (6) constructing the next floor at ground level, the previous floor then being hoisted to its final position, and (7) repeating steps (5) and (6) for each floor. For very tall buildings, more than one construction platform 13 may be used, each platform being fixed at a fraction of the height of the vertical columns, which are constructed from the uppermost platform, and floors are then cast in reinforced concrete on each platform and lifted by hoisting means mounted at the level of the platform above. The construction platform 13 is provided with formwork 14, 15, 16, 17 for casting the vertical columns, &c. in reniforced concrete and lifting gear 26, 28 by means of which the platform "climbs" up on the constructed parts of the vertical columns.
