Abstract

1293647 Rotary-piston IC engines DAIMLER-BENZ AG 5 June 1970 [7 June 1970 20 Jan 1970] 27280/70 Heading F1F A rotary-piston I.C. engine, particularly an engine having a three-sided piston operating in a bi-lobate epitrochoidal chamber, in which the radial seals at the piston corners comprise a supporting part 4, Fig.14, and wearing parts 5a, 5b, made, e.g., of an oxide ceramic material, the adjacent faces of the supporting part and wearing parts are machined with high precision and then wetted so that they may slide with respect to each other but at some time are held against separation by suction. They may be locally held against separation by adhesive bonding soldering or cementing at mid points of the parts 5a, 5b. The parts 5a, 5b may be formed as a single part. The seal is formed with corner parts 6, 7 having extensions 8 to permit the fitting of a spring when the seal is located in its slot at the piston corner. Recesses 5c, as shown at the mid length of respective parts 5a, 5b may be formed equal to about one third the length of the part. The recesses alternatively may be in the under surface of the wear parts or part or in both the supporting part and wear part or parts. For various alternative cross-sections of the seals reference should be made to the Specification.
