Abstract

1293282 Wear indicators SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 April 1971 [19 June 1970] 11938/71 Heading F2E An opposed pad disc brake has an electrode 11 mounted on a backing plate 3a of one pad and perpendicular thereto, so as to extend over the outer periphery of the rotating disc 2 toward the other backing plate 3b or a metal abutment member on the backing plate, so that when the pads have worn to a predetermined limit, the electrode contacts the backing plate 3b or the abutment member to generate an electrical signal to indicate the pad wear. The electrode 11 is encased in an insulating sleeve 8 which is in turn held in a metal sleeve having a flange to abut the backing plate 3a and a screw thread to accept a nut 13 to enable easy mounting and dismounting of the electrode on and from the backing plate.
