Abstract

The sensor indicates when the wear of the braking pads of a disc brake has reached an unacceptable level. The insulated sensor wire (5) is mounted in a block of synthetic material (6) resistant to high temperature, which is a snap fit in a hole in the brake pad support plate (2). The wire then projects into a recess (4) cut in the brake pad. When the pad wears down, the wire makes contact with the brake disc and completes an electrical circuit to an indicator. This form of construction allows the production of standard brake pads which may be used whether the vehicle is fitted with an indicator or not.
