Abstract

A metal connector (20), either an insulated cable or a specially made probe, is fixed into an insulating shroud (1) by the use of a low melting point filler. This assembly is clipped onto the disc pad backing plate and a low voltage is applied to the connector. When the life of the brake pad is almost finished, the shroud end is also worn away by the disc, current flows through the connector to the disc, and a warning signal is triggered. The bared end of the cable is embedded in a tin alloy mass (30) and forced against the inner end of the shroud.
