Abstract

1535300 Brake-lining wear-indicators SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 May 1976 [17 Sept 1975] 20625/76 Heading F2E A silicon-controlled rectifier 7 is connected in series with a lamp 6 across a battery 5; a voltage-divider 11, 10 in parallel with the S.C.R. has its junction connected to the gate terminal of the S.C.R. An insulated wire loop circuit 4 having its end 3 embedded at a level 2 in a frictional brake pad 1 normally shortcircuits the resistance 10, so the S.C.R. is switched off. When, owing to wear of the pad 1, the loop end 3 is broken, the short-circuiting is broken, so the S.C.R. is turned on, and lamp 6 lights. The properties of the S.C.R. ensure that the lamp remains alight, even if the broken parts of loop end 3 should be re-connected (e.g. by contact with the rotary member associated with the pad 1).
