Abstract

1292480 Improved stainless steel INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 10 July 1970 [11 July 1969] 33617/70 Heading C7A A stainless steel comprises in per cent by weight: - Cr 30-36 Ni 2-8 Mo 0À5-5 C less than 0À1 Si up to 3 Ti less than 2 V up to 2 Nb up to 2 Zr up to 2 Ta up to 2 Al up to 2 Mn up to 2 Co up to 10 W up to 4 Fe and incidental impurities - balance, where the total of Ti, V, Nb, Zr and Ta does not exceed 4% and the function Cr + 3Mn + 3Si is from 34 to 48 and where if that function is less than 41 and the steel was produced by air melting, at least one of Ti, Nb, V, Ta or Zr is present. The carbon content is preferably not more than 0À03%. The steels may be poured at temperatures in the range of 1, 540-1, 595‹C., hot finished at 760-816‹C., annealed at 1,038-1,205‹C, cold rolled and finally annealed at 1,066-1,122‹C. Present in the alloy as impurities may be S, H, O. Uses specified for the alloys include seawater and sea atmosphere environments.
