Abstract

1291703 Folding tower cranes W F VONCK 14 Nov 1969 [20 Nov 1968] 55115/68 Heading B8B A mobile folding tower crane is shown in the transport condition in Fig. 1 with its tower 10 horizontal and its folding jib 11 along the top of the tower 10. The jib 11 is unfolded and locked and the foot 10A of the tower 10 drawn to the right, as shown in Fig. 3, so that it is cantilevered away from a back-stay anchorage 20 and supported by a back-stay cable 13A, 13B, 13C, 13D, the movement lifting the jib 11. The tower 10 is now erected against the force of heavy springs (not shown), the outer end of the jib sliding over an A-frame 12 and resting on the ground, Fig. 4, at the end of this stage. Turntable E is now operated to move the backstay anchorage 180 degrees, with the jib 11 stationary, which operation is permitted by a universal-joint connection 16 at the top of the tower 10. The jib 11 may then be raised to its operating position, Fig. 6. The tower 10 may be telescopic and the relative rotation between the back-stay anchorage 20 and the jib 11 permitted by a bearing at the base of the tower 10.
