Abstract

1290712 Tufting machines, needles SINGER CO (UK) Ltd 20 Jan 1970 [20 March 1969] 14674/69 Heading DIG A tufting machine needle comprises a shank portion 11 and a mounting means 13 displaced transversely of the shank to permit feeding of a yarn to the shank in the longitudinal direction of the needle, the mounting means providing an abutment surface 13a<SP>1</SP> engagable with the face of a needle bar 14. The needle shank 11 has an eye 12 and the mounting means 13 includes a plate like box 13b engaging a slot 14a in the bar and secured by the screw 14b. A plurality of bars, each supporting about 50 needles are combined in aligned end to end disposition to provide a needle bar of full tufting width. Two parallel spaced shanks may be provided on one plate like base, one shank being aligned with the end slot of a needle bar section, the other being aligned with the join of the two needle bar sections, the extreme slot on each section being spaced from the section end by a distance equal to the spacing of the slots. The invention is applicable to hollow needles.
