128,936. Ochterbeck, J. D. Jan. 12, 1914, [Convention date]. Impact pulverizers.-A machine for pulverizing large pieces of rock &c. comprises a set of beaters, pivoted in a rotary carrier and yieldingly held against abutments on the carrier by springs, and a co-operating breaker-plate which is adjustably supported by a resilient wedge. In the machine shown, the beaters C are formed with shanks c which are mounted on pins 4 in pockets b in the carrier B, and are normally held against abutments 5 by springs. Compound springs, which may each consist of a helical spring 6 and a stem 7 of rubber or the like, are preferably emploved. On meeting obstructions, the hammers yield and are then caused by the springs to strike a hard blow. The breaker-plate D, arranged beneath the feed-hopper 1, is pivoted at the top 8 and is supported by a resilient wedge E, which is formed with curved ribs e<1>, engaging curved ribs a on the casing A, and is supported by rods 10, engaging adjusting-nuts 11. The wedge comprises a movable plate e<4> which is guided by flanges e<2> and is supported by springs 12. The breakerplate is formed with ribs d, bearing on the plate e<4>.
