[Class 59] In an impact crusher a horizontal rotor 40 is mounted on a vertical rotary axis 9 and the material to be crushed is fed to the beaters 50 through shoots 20 situated above the path swept out by the beaters. The number of shoots and beaters may be unequal so that the impacts are not simultaneous during a revolution of the rotor. Each beater 50 is wedged into a dove-tailed slot 52 in the rotor arm by wedges and is provided with a projecting portion 51, the beater being inclined to the vertical axis of the mill. The mill casing is formed with pockets lined with plates 80, 85 against which the material is projected and as shown in Fig. 9 coarse material returned to the mill through shoot 101 is fed through shoots 104 to receptacles 106 and falls in a sheet across the plate 80 and is further, crushed by the impact of the material thrown thereon by the beaters 50. Cover plates 70 provide access to the beaters. The feed shoots may be inclined to the vertical and the bearing of the electric motor 8 is resiliently supported in a rubber seating. A fly-wheel may be mounted on the rotor shaft 9 and the rotor may be balanced. The electric motor may be placed below the rotor and the ground material may be discharged through inclined shoots.
