Abstract

1289016 Electric hot-plates TAPPAN CO 17 June 1970 [6 Oct 1969] 29429/70 Heading H5H A smooth top cooker unit comprises an enclosure with a smooth glass or glass-ceramic top 34, an electric heater unit mounted in the enclosure, the heater unit comprising a temperature resistant body 29 with a recessed top containing a resistance heating element 32, the recess 30 in the top of body 29 being completely surrounded by a rim 33 which engages the underside of the glass top 34 so that the element 32 is spaced from the glass top 34 and is operative in a space completely enclosed by top 34 and body 29. The body 29 may be spring urged against the top 34 and be slightly deformed to ensure a tight seal. The element 32 is a coiled wire snap fitted into a spiral groove 31 formed in body 29. A cylindrical metal pan 37, supported from the floor of a metal box 11, forming the bottom of the enclosure, by metal legs 40 and supports 41, encloses the body 29. As shown four such heater units are mounted to the left of a vertical partition 13 of the enclosure. On the right of partition 13 the enclosure is further subdivided by vertical partitions 14, 15. In the front compartment so formed are the control units 17 for the heater units. The centre compartment contains a blower driven by a motor 20 in the front compartment. Air is drawn in through slotted cover 23, passed via a duct in partition 13 to the heater units 25 and 26 and then directed by a vertical daffle 42 to rear heater units 27, 28 before emerging through a screened top 24 of the rear compartment. The blower may be programmed to continue operating for a predetermined time after de-energization of the heater units.
