Abstract
1288788 Conduit fitting for bulkheads and the like ROSAN ENG CORP and J ROSAN 19 Dec 1969 [19 Dec 1968] 61990/69 Heading F2G A conduit fitting comprises a tubular body having a threaded portion spaced from a shoulder portion of greater diameter than the threaded portion, a broaching ring having internal and external teeth and a tightening nut whereby, when the threaded portion of the body is passed through the broaching ring and a hole in a bulkhead respectively, the nut may be engaged and tightened on the threaded portion to cause the shoulder to drive the external teeth on the broaching ring into the bulkhead, the internal teeth of the broaching ring either forming or engaging with preformed axial grooves on the body thereby to prevent relative rotation while allowing relative axial movement. In one embodiment the body 21 is flanged at 25 and has an axially extending skirt 28 which both prevents misalignment with respect to the bulkhead and provides a groove 29 to house a curved sealing ring 31. A sealing washer 42 with a bead 43 fits between the bulkhead and nut 40 When tightened the broaching ring 34 is driven into the bulkhead and the edge 45 of the sealing ring 31 and the bead 43 of the washer oppose each other and thereby relieve stress in the bulkhead caused by intrusion of the broaching ring. In another embodiment the shoulder 26a is formed by a flare in the body, the sealing washer and sealing ring being in interchanged position with respect to the above embodiment, and the washer being of conical internal shape to complement the flare.
