Abstract
1287563 Valves KEELAVITE HYDRAULICS Ltd 12 Sept 1969 [26 June 1968 23 July 1968 5 May 1969] 30522/68 35043/68 and 22817/69 Heading F2V In a pressure regulator, flow from an inlet 4 to an outlet 4a takes place through a variable orifice defined by an adjustable plate 23 carried on the crown 8 of a piston 9, through a series of piston-controlled radial bores 13, through an annular chamber 14, and finally through a further series of radial bores 15, the piston being biased by a spring 7 in a direction so as to uncover ports 13 and to abut a circlip 6. The piston crown and the adjustable plate are formed with one or more circular orifices (Figs. 3, not shown) which can be made to co-operate with one another to variable extents to so define the flow path through the piston crown. Alternatively (Figs. 4 to 7, not shown), the piston crown may have a pear-shaped orifice with which either a helical or a circular and eccentrically mounted non-apertured plate cooperates, or the piston crown may be formed with circular apertures and the plate made rectangular with V-shaped notches in either its long or short sides, the plate being rotatable or displaceable parallel to its longest axis to so vary the degree of overlap of the notches and apertures. In a modification (Figs. 8 and 9, not shown), the valve inlet and outlet are both disposed transversely to the longitudinal axis of the valve body with the inlet leading to a space the opposite sides of which are defined by the piston crown and the adjustable orifice defining members. In a further modification (Figs. 10 to 12, not shown) the inlet flow is intersected by a fixed orificed plate across which is movable a second plate having a V-shaped or circular orifice with flow from upstream of the plates being channelled to the piston crown and the piston spring extending between the orificed plate and this crown.
