Abstract
128,716. Cope, H. A., (Madison, J. O.). June 21, 1918. Rafts.-A trussed sheet building-material suitable for rafts, life-boats, buoys, &c., comprises two metal or other sheets, Fig. 1, secured back to back, either or both sheets being formed with deep depressions 15 constituting web members spaced apart laterally and longitudinally and riveted, spot welded, or otherwise connected. The edges of the sheets may be riveted, folded, or welded together, and the sheets may be stiffened by longitudinal or diagonal ribs or by both. One or both faces of the ecmpound sheet may be covered with plastic material 16, Fig. 4, which may extend through apertures 18, Fig. 1, formed in the depressions. Clips 17 may be welded to the sheets. Flat reinforcing sheets 21, Fig. 16, may be secured internally or externally to the trussed sheet. The internal space between the sheets may be filled with sound and heat insulating material, or may be used for ventilating, heating, or refrigeration purposes.
