Abstract
24,391. Siewert, A. Nov. 2. Framing.-Sheet-metal beams for use in carriage frames &c. consist of flat and curved strips or plates connected by lugs on one strip which project through holes in another strip and are upset like rivets. The interior may be filled with non- conducting or strengthening material. Fig. 2 shows a primary shape in which the edges of the curved sheet are riveted to a flat plate. Two such beams may be secured together with the bent parts in contact, or several bent portions may be riveted side by side to a continuous flat plate, or be connected at top and bottom by flat plates. The beams may be stiffened by transverse partitions, or by longitudinal partitions placed perpendicularly or inclined to the flat plates, as shown in Fig. 18, and the parts may be built up as shown in Fig. 23, with or without the internal partitions. A piriform shape is shown in Fig. 8; the flat plate may be omitted, and internal partitions added. Figs. 25 and 28 show other forms of beams.
