1286968 Moulding spools SOC ITALIANA TELECOMUNICAZIONI SIEMENS SpA 24 Dec 1969 [4 July 1969] 62784/69 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions B8 F2 and H1] A method of producing an insulation sleeve for the core of a relay spool includes rolling a length of insulating tape 4 in a hollow cylinder 5, transferring the roll 10 to the cylindrical cavity 12 of a mould 14, heating the mould and allowing it to cool whereupon the tape 4 now retains its rolled shape. As shown the tape is cut from a roll 2 by cutters 3, drawn into the cylinder 5 and rolled by tool 9 having a tape gripping notch 8. A mandrel 11 is used to transfer the tape 4 from the cylindrical cavity 12 to mould 14. Flared ends may be produced in one or both ends of the spool while the mould 14 is heated by means of a punch 18. When assembled as part of a relay, the spool may be slid over the core and if it has plain ends the ends of the spool are received in annular recesses in flanges mounted on the ends of the core and if it has flared ends these ends abut the inner surfaces of the flanges. In either construction the windings of the relay are separated from the core.
