Abstract

Air-tubes.-Relates to the manufacture of airtubes which, in cross-section, have a re-entrant portion when deflated.- As shown in Fig. 1, an ordinary air-tube a, or one only partly vulcanized, may be assembled in collapsed form over a mandrel b wrapped with canvas c, and submitted to further vulcanization. The tube may be fitted or formed, either at the tread or the inner periphery, with a thickened portion which may be combined with bias-cut canvas. Fig. 3 shows a modified arrangement in which the raw rubber tube in straight form is vulcanized on a core i between moulds j, k. In a further modification, the tube is wrapped with canvas and the lower, mould k omitted. In all cases, the thickening-strip may be combined with bias-out canvas. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 14770/91, 11593/95, 6074,/03, 5971/05, 2028/11, and 102,546.
