Abstract

1286873 Tunnels etc GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA 27 Aug 1969 [4 Feb 1969 8 Feb 1969] 42745/69 Heading E1F [Also in Division B8] A tunnel lining installation comprises a conveyor 2, Fig. 1 (see Division B8) having pairs of circulatory members 19, 20 which convey lining sections 1 sequentially on to a recipricating carriage 5 by which they are singly transferred to a setting device, Fig. 4, having a trolley 116 provided with a radially extensible gripper head 122 and mounted for movement on a guide ring 110 carried by a driving shield. The section-receiving surface of the carriage is formed as an arcuate table 33 having peripherally cut-away portions to co-operate with the circulatory members and the gripper head. Guide levers such as 29 coupled to hydraulic piston and cylinder units such as 31' align the section longitudinally and transversely on the table. The trolley 116 is connected to a counterweight trolley 120 by arcuate members 121. The trolley assembly is movable round the ring, on rollers 117 under control of fail safe brakes 136, by drive means housed in the trolley 120 and having a toothed wheel engaging a rack or roller chain extending over the periphery of the ring. The gripper head 122 comprises support bodies 129 having clamps 130 and mounted on a piston 126 which is radially extensible by a ram 127. The head is rotatable about its own axis and displaceable along the axis of the ring. In use, the piston is raised through one of the cut-away portions in the carriage and the bodies 129 clamp and raise the section, a support block 128 being raised to engage the centre of the section by a further piston and cylinder unit 131. After the carriage has been driven back toward the conveyor, the piston is lowered until the section rests on forked support shoulders 123 and carrier blocks 124 which may be adjusted in level relative to one another. Clamps 125 on the shoulders 123 grip the section and the gripper head may be disengaged. The trolley 116 is moved to the appropriate position on the ring and the section pressed outwardly against the tunnel wall by activating rams 132. A hydraulic pump may be accommodated in the trolley 120 for supplying pressure medium.
