Abstract

1286848 Stud and socket fastenings JOSTWERKE GmbH 4 Sept 1969 [4 Sept 1968 12 Feb 1969] 43898/69 Heading E2B A fastening mechanism for securing a container having corner socket fittings onto a vehicle frame bearer 1, comprises a rotary stud having an elongated head 4 at one end of a shank and carrying a radially projecting arm 8 adjacent its other end for rotating the stud; a guide collar 5 through which the shank of the stud extends and having a top of the same shape as the stud head and a lower part 5a of uniform non-circular cross section; a housing 2 for the stud and collar assembly adapted to be secured to the vehicle frame bearer with no part of its upper surface projecting beyond the profile of the bearer and having a non-circular opening 6 within which the lower part of the guide collar is a sliding fit and into which the guide collar can be retracted by bringing the said arm into a longitudinal limb 9 of an L-shaped slot 10 in the housing wall, the circumferential limb 12 of the slot providing for movement of the arm and rotation of the stud between a releasing position approximately midway along it and fastening positions at its ends, in which the circumferential slot limb is somewhat inclined towards one end to adapt the stud to engage a thinner corner fitting when the arm is at that end than when it is at the other. To hold the stud in its fastening positions two abutments 13, 14 are provided on the wall of the housing near the opposite ends of the limb 12 of the slot and the arm is provided with the handle 15 which can be pivoted between horizontal and vertical positions and when in the vertical position and in either fastening position movement of the arm is prevented by the handle engaging one of the abutments. In the centre position the limb 12 has a depression for locating the arm 8. A little to the right of the depression a slot 17 extends upwardly from the substantially horizontal limb of the L- shaped slot through which the arm 8 can be passed to enable the stud and collar assembly to be detached from the housing.
