Abstract

1310646 Releasable fastenings EASTERN CO 19 April 1971 [16 March 1970] 23337/71 Heading E2A A door control mechanism for securing a pivoted door in a closed position in an associated door frame, comprises a shaft 10 adapted to be secured to such a door with its longitudinal axis spaced from and parallel to the pivot axis of the door, means 20 for turning said shaft about said axis, two keepers 26, 27 each having a base portion 52 adapted to be secured to an opposite door frame part extending transversely to the pivot axis, and members 24, 25 secured to opposite end portions of said shaft and having portions 31, 32 projecting from a central body portion in opposite directions which cooperate with portions 56, 57 of said keepers to secure the door in the closed position, the central body portion of each said member being generally U- shaped and partly surrounding the end portion of said shaft to which it is attached by welds extending lengthwise of the shaft. In the construction shown the portions 31, and 32 are forked and each has opposed surfaces 42, 43, 45, 46 which converge towards the shaft and which are engageable with correspondingly inclined surfaces 59, 60, 62, 63 of the portions 56, 57 of the corresponding keeper and which extend from its 'base portion 52. Each portion 57 is also tapered upwardly from the base portion and the corresponding surfaces 45, 46 of each portion 32 are similarly inclined towards each other the inclination of the various surface serving to rotate the door relative to the frame as each member is turned into engagement with its keeper. The means for turning the shaft about the axis is a handle which can be secured to the door by a clip 111 that is pivoted to a plate 110. The clip 111 has provision for receiving a seal. Each portion 56 includes a retaining flange 66 which extends laterally from opposite sides of a post of the portion and which is engaged by the ends of the corresponding forked portion 31 when the member is engaged with the keeper so that the door is held closed.
