Abstract

1286531 Moulding a toothed belt DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 5 Feb 1970 [7 Feb 1969] 6661/69 Heading B5A In a method of producing a toothed belt a sheet of unvulcanized elastomeric material and a sheet of a stretchable fabric are passed through the nip of a pair of rollers, one of which has circumferentially extending grooves of the required belt tooth profile, the formed composite sheet, after being cut to appropriate widths, is applied to a cylindrical mould having a profile to receive the teeth of the sheet extending parallel to the mould axis, and at least one tensioned layer of wire or synthetic fibre is wound around the radially outer surface of the composite sheet which is then applied with a covering layer of elastomeric material before the assembly is moulded and vulcanized. The elastomeric material may be preformed by passage through a preforming nip before its passage through the nip with the fabric sheet the elastomeric material may be preformed to sheet form before being fed with the fabric sheet to the forming roller nip.
