Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A process for producing an endless toothed belt of rubber or rubber-like plastics material comprises the steps of forming toothed projections 2 on a blank strip 1, by grooving, applying the strip to a mould core 6 having depressions 7 which receive the teeth 2, joining the ends of the strip by butting or overlapping, applying a wire or cord-like reinforcing ply 9 on the outside of the strip, covering the ply with an outer layer 10 of an elastic protective material, and vulcanizing or polymerizing the assembly in a subsequent heat treatment. The teeth 2 may be moulded by passing a strip 1 between a smooth cylindrical roller 3 and an axially fluted roller 4. The teeth 2 may have a fabric cover 8 which is first wound round the mould core 6 and rolled into the depressions 7.
