Abstract

886,754. Moulding endless belts. HUTZENLAUB, E. April 9, 1958, No. 11308/58. Class 87(2). [Also in Group VIII] Endless belts are produced by winding a reinforcing steel wire 4, heated by a device 9, from a spool 10 on to a sleeve 2 of synthetic thermoplastic material so that it penetrates the sleeve which is rotatably carried on a mandrel 1, smoothing the surface of the sleeve with a roller 7, and cutting the resultant reinforced cylindrical body into slices. The wire 4 is attached to the mandrel at 5 and is guided by a roller 8 on a guide 6 and the wire may be replaced by a plastic material having a higher melting point than that of the sleeve 2. In other embodiments (not shown) the mandrel has teeth to form a toothed belt, the grooves in the sleeve are preformed by a cutting roller, and a thread with a fusible coating is extruded directly on to the mandrel without the use of a sleeve. A fabric coating may be welded on to the cylinder before cutting.
