Abstract

1285551 Paper; treating textiles &c BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS Ltd 28 May 1969 [22 May 1968] 24359/68 Headings D2B and D1P Paper or fabric (woven or non-woven) (1) in contact with an earthed metal plate (2) is impregnated by establishing an electric field between the plate and a spray gun (3), supplying to the spray gun a thermosetting aminoplast and a curing catalyst, so that these materials are deposited on the sheet, and subjecting the sheet to raised temperatures, with or without raised pressures so that the aminoplast adheres but is not completely cured, and can be further cured in a later process. As shown, the sheet, after coating, may be heated as at 5, or pressed between heated platens as at 6, or heated and passed between rolls 7 to cause the synthetic resin to stick to and impregnate the sheet. It may be used immediately or after trimming, cooling and storage to apply a decorative surface to the inside of a bowl. Paper, if used, may be of man-made fibres, e.g. rayon; fabrics, if used, may be thin. The process may be continuous. The aminoplast may be a product of formaldehyde and benzoguanamine, acetoguanamine, 2-cyclohexyl-4, 6- diamino-S-triazine, or melamine. Dimethylol ethylene urea may be added as a plasticiser. The catalyst may be magnesium chloride. The aminoplast and catalyst may be applied as a solution, in which case it must be dried.
