Abstract
1285394 Door check EATON GmbH 6 May 1970 [7 May 1969] 21858/70 Heading E2M A door closer comprises a spring (not shown) acting on a piston 7' in a hydraulic cylinder 6', a piston rod 9' connected via a crank 10' to an axle 11', the axle mounting an arm 3' pivotally connected to a second arm 4' connected to the door frame; the piston and cylinder including a non-return valve 17' and a throttle bore 12'; the arrangement being such that, when the: door is open to 90‹, the crank makes an angle α' of less than 180‹ with the piston axis, the angle being measured in the direction of movement of the crank on the door closing. As shown, the throttle bore has two transverse ducts 16', 19', the piston blocking the duct 19' when the door is fully open to prevent the flow of oil therethrough; the piston moving due to oil leaking past the piston 7'. The throttle bore includes a threaded throttle spindle having a conical end 14'; a duct 15' may be provided to by-pass the end 14', the duct corresponding to the near-closed position of the door. The arms 3' and 4' form an acute angle for all positions of the door up to the 90‹ open position. In the prior art arrangement, Figs. 1-4 (not shown), the throttle bore connects directly with the chamber 5' and the angle α' is greater than 180‹.
