Abstract
726,946. Dashpots. COLLIS & SONS, Ltd., J. July 1, 1953 [July 29, 1952], No. 19126/52. Class 108 (3). In a dashpot of the kind in which piston movement is permitted in one direction by liquid flow through a non- return valve 15 and for piston movement in the other direction liquid has to flow between the periphery of the piston and the cylinder bore, the cylinder bore is tapered, means 16, 17 are provided for pre-setting the position of the piston 11 within the cylinder, and the valve 15 is a ball-valve. As shown, applied to a release check for lifting trucks, the piston rod 12 is connected to the upper platform of the truck (not shown) by a shackle 16, the position of which on the rod 12 may be screw adjusted at 17. A liquid reservoir is provided at 13. Thus by adjusting the initial position of the piston along the axis of the cylinder, different liquid viscosities and operating loads, can be catered for.
