Abstract
1283039 Retractive switches JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 28 Oct 1969 [18 Nov 1968] 54549/68 Heading HlN A switch comprises a body 11 including a hollow portion 12 closed by a cover 14, an operating member 22 pivoted (at 23) in body 11, two sets of contacts 17, 19 and 18, 21 operable in response to pivotal movement of operating member 22 in opposite directions from an intermediate position by means of a pair of oppositely directed fingers 31, 32 on operating member 22 extending through apertures 33, 34 in the wall of hollow portion 12 of body 11, fingers 31, 32 being returned upon release. Contacts 19, 21 are moved by roller 26 mounted in operating member 22 when either of fingers 31, 32 is pressed in. Cover 14 is a snap fit on portion 12 and extending downwardly from cover 14 is a hollow spigot 15 supporting contacts 17, 18, 19, 21, and also containing two triangular apertures (24, 25, Fig. 2) (not shown) with their apices pointing towards cover 14. Roller 26 fits within the triangular apertures and is urged towards the apices by springs (29, Fig. 2) so that when operating member 22 is pivoted, roller 26 moves contacts 19 or 21 and at the same time rolls down the sides of the triangular apertures. When operating member 22 is released it returns to the central position shown partly under the action of spring 19 or 21 and partly because springs 29, Fig. 2, urge roller 26 back into the apices of the triangular openings causing operating member 22 to pivot back to the central position. Body 11 is intended to be secured to a hollow gear lever 13 of a motor vehicle and the switch is intended to control the overdrive facility.
