Abstract

1283003 Two part couplings D AUSTICLAYTON and B MASE 19 April 1971 [3 March 1970] 10213/70 Heading H2E A plug and socket connector wherein each member comprises at least one contact piece which is arranged to contact the other when the plug is inserted into the socket, one of the members including a make and break contact in series with the contact piece thereof and operated by a permanent magnet to close the make and break contact on insertion of the plug. In the described embodiment, a pot magnet 23, which also provides the earth contact of a three-pin plug, attracts a steel disc 28 through a disc 27 which is the same material of the magnet and is connected to terminal 31a. The disc 28 is mounted on two phosphor-bronze springs each of which carries at its end a contact such as 30 connected to a terminal 31. The contact 30 connects with a slidable dumbell contact 26 to establish a through connection.
