Abstract
128,288. Tinker, r. July 17, 1917. Hydrocarbons, distilling.- In the production of fuel oils from crude oils, the crude oil is mixed in a chamber a with hot vapour derived from the distillation in a still b of a portion of the treated oil withdrawn from the chamber a. The crude oil enters the top of the tower or chamber a, and there mixes with vapours from the still b. The petrol and other light hydrocarbons escape in the form of vapours through a pipe d. The oil thus " topped " constitutes the improved fuel oil. The larger portion is withdrawn by a pipe c, a small portion flowing to the still b. A portion of the heavier constituents of the crude oil remains as residue in the still b, and is continuously withdrawn therefrom. The partial elimination of the heavier constituents in this manner decreases the viscosity of the fuel oil.
