1282752 Cooling reactors UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 18 Dec 1969 [21 Jan 1969] 3490/69 Heading G6C In a gas cooled nuclear reactor, e.g. with re-entrant gas coolant flow, the coolant inlet and outlet plenums are adjacent and are separated by a member having either rupture discs or pressure relief valves. The coolant flows from the inlet plenum through the moderating core structure and then reverses to flow through the fuel channels to the outlet plenum. The valves are arranged in pairs, one valve of each pair is arranged to relieve pressure in the opposite direction to the other valve. The separating member is protected against pressure surges by the discs or valves and a shut-down signal may be initiated by the operation of the discs or valves.
