Abstract

1286629 Cooling reactors UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 20 Feb 1970 [4 March 1969 1 July 1969] 11572/69 and 33291/69 Heading G6C In a pressurized-water cooled nuclear reactor, having positive void coefficient, voiding of the cooling circuit in the event of a breach is prevented by interconnecting sections of the circuit through flow restrictors. A section of the circuit which is located is fed with coolant from adjacent sections through the restrictors. With a large interruption a breach in a section, the restrictors arrest flow of coolant from the adjacent sections. The resistors may operate with a positive mechanical valve action or may have no moving parts, the degree of restriction being responsive to cavitation. Pressurized coolant water is supplied to the fuel channels, 2 by the circulators, 1, through the distributors, 3. The outlet ports of the distributor are interconnected by the lines 7 and the flow resistors 8 for interchange of coolant flow.
