Abstract

1281063 Feeding webs WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER 11 Nov 1969 [2 Dec 1968] 55111/69 Heading B8R An arrangement for feeding a web B, e.g. of paper, plastics or textile material, under constant tension to a processing apparatus comprises a run-on roll 1, a run-off roll 2, an intermediate roll 3 and an adjustable pressure roll 4 which is mounted on pivoted levers 9 so that it can be selectively applied to press the web B against the roll 1 or the roll 2, or against both rolls 1 and 2 simultaneously. The considerable friction between the web B and the rolls 1, 2, 3 minimizes slip and permits feeding at substantially constant tension; if variations in the tension of the outgoing web portion, or the incoming web portion, or both web portions do occur, then slipping is avoided by pressing the web respectively against roll 1, or roll 2 or against both rolls. The levers 9 may be associated with a pressure-adjusting mechanism including a hand wheel 14, a screw 13 and a compression 16. The arrangement may be used to feed a web to a printing machine, in which case a second feed roll train, driven at an appropriate speed to maintain the desired tension in the printed web, may be provided downstream of the printing station (Fig. 2, not shown).
