Abstract

1378086 Feeding webs MEYERCORD CO 4 Aug 1972 [19 Aug 1971] 36550/72 Heading B8R [Also in Division B6] A web 20 carrying decalcomania which are pressed on to an article by dies 46, 47, is fed past the dies and during decalcomania application is clamped and tensioned at each side of the die by clamps 43, 44 and tension rollers 24, 27. The die 47, clamps 43, 44 and tension rollers 24, 27 are operated by pneumatic pressure controlled by a photo-electric detector 41 sensing registration marks on the web 20. On detection of a registration mark, the clamps 43, 44 are operated pneumatically and the pneumatic biasing force on the tension rollers 24, 27 is reduced to permit swinging thereof while maintaining tension in the web. During web feed the tension rollers are subjected to higher pressure to prevent swinging. An adjustment screw 137 adjusts the home position of the tension rollers to assist registration of the web with the dies 46, 47. A backing web 170 is separated from the web 20 upstream of the dies and led round idler roller 171, over supply and take-up reels 17, 19 and rejoined with the web 20 by a roller 28 downstream of the dies. A drive roller 31 winds both webs on to take-up reel 19 which is also driven.
